The fence styles we build, and when each one fits.

A six-foot cedar privacy fence is the workhorse of San Antonio backyards: full screening, a clean look, and a price most HOAs and budgets accept without a fight. Horizontal board fencing is the modern upgrade, with wider planks and tight reveals that read as a design feature rather than a boundary. Wrought iron and steel fencing keep sightlines open, which is the right call for view lots, pool enclosures, and front yards.

Most homes are not a single style. We often run cedar privacy along the side and back lines, then switch to iron across a front or view-facing section. At the consult we walk the whole property line and map the fence to how each part of the yard is actually used.

Cedar, steel, and the honest tradeoffs.

Western red cedar is our default privacy material because it resists warping, cupping, and insects far better than pressure-treated pine in the Texas climate. Left untreated it silvers gracefully. Sealed and stained, it holds a warm tone for years. Either way, cedar earns its place.

For fencing that should outlive the house, wrought iron and welded steel are the answer. We fabricate iron fencing in-house, finish it for long Texas UV life, and design it to carry the same picket spacing and top detail as your gates and railings. We will tell you plainly which material fits your budget and your maintenance tolerance.

03 / 07

Built for Texas heat, wind, and limestone ground.

A fence fails at the posts. We core-drill through limestone to the depth the soil and wind load actually require, then set posts in concrete sized for your lot, not a generic minimum. On exposed and acreage lots we add post depth and bracing where wind uplift is worst.

Picket gaps, rail count, and hardware are all specced for the Texas climate so the fence does not sag, lean, or rattle through the first round of spring storms. We build it once, and we build it to stay straight.

04 / 07

Gates and access designed in from the start.

A fence is only as good as the gate you use every day. We build walk gates and double drive gates with sag-proof bracing, smooth-swing hinges, and hardware rated for daily Texas use. Where you want a custom steel or iron driveway gate, our metalwork shop fabricates it to match the fence.

If automation is on the horizon, we frame the opening and set the posts so an operator can be added later without rebuilding the entrance. You tell us how you move through the property, and we design the access around it.

05 / 07

HOA submissions handled for you.

Most San Antonio HOAs require an Architectural Control Committee review before a fence goes up, with a defined style, height, material, and sometimes a stain color. We prepare the submission package in the language your HOA expects and handle the back-and-forth so you are not chasing paperwork.

We also confirm city and county rules for corner lots, easements, and pool-enclosure code, and we call 811 for utility locates before any post hole is dug. Approvals and locates are part of the job, not your homework.

06 / 07

A clear scope, a fixed price, and a clean site.

Every fence project starts with a written, fixed-price scope: material, height, post spacing, gate count, and removal of the old fence if there is one. The number you sign is the number you pay.

A tight crew builds on a written schedule, hauls away old material, and leaves the yard clean. We register the applicable cedar, steel, and hardware warranties in your name and hand you the paperwork at the final walkthrough.

Questions homeowners ask us

Frequently asked questions

Does Klema Builders build fences in San Antonio?
Klema Builders is a San Antonio fence company serving the greater San Antonio metro and the Texas Hill Country. The team designs and builds custom cedar privacy fences, horizontal board fences, and wrought iron fencing engineered for Texas weather and HOA approval. Every project includes HOA submissions where required, a fixed-price quote line by line, utility locates before digging, and workmanship backed at the final walkthrough.
How much does a fence cost in San Antonio?
Most San Antonio fences run $25 to $70 per linear foot installed. Standard six-foot cedar privacy fencing lands at the lower end, horizontal board and premium cedar sit in the middle, and wrought iron reaches the top of the range. A 150-foot cedar privacy fence typically comes in around $4,500 to $7,500. Every Klema Builders quote is fixed-price, line by line, before we set a post.
Do I need a permit or HOA approval for a fence in San Antonio?
The City of San Antonio does not require a permit for most standard residential fences under eight feet, but corner lots, pool enclosures, and properties in overlay districts have specific rules. HOAs across Stone Oak, Alamo Ranch, Cibolo, Schertz, and Fair Oaks Ranch almost always require an Architectural Control Committee review with a style, height, and material spec. Klema Builders prepares and submits the HOA package for you.
What fence material lasts longest in Texas?
For wood, Western red cedar outperforms pressure-treated pine because it resists warping and insect damage in the Texas heat. For maximum lifespan, wrought iron and steel fencing last 30 years or more with minimal upkeep. We help you weigh privacy, budget, and maintenance tolerance and recommend the material that fits how you actually use the yard.
How long does a fence installation take?
Most residential fence projects take 2 to 4 days of on-site work once materials are staged and underground utilities are located. Larger acreage perimeters, hillside lots, and limestone-heavy ground take longer. We give you a written schedule at quote signing and call 811 for utility locates before any post hole is dug.
Can you build a fence on a sloped or limestone lot?
Yes. Hill Country lots are our normal terrain. On slopes we either rack the fence to follow the grade or step it in clean panels, depending on the look you want. In limestone we core-drill post holes to the correct depth so the fence stands straight and stays plumb for the life of the build.
Do you replace old fences and haul away the old material?
Yes. We remove and dispose of your existing fence, reset or replace posts as needed, and leave the site clean. If only a section failed, we can also do partial replacement and match the new run to the existing fence as closely as the weathered wood allows.
Can the fence match my gates, railings, and other metalwork?
Yes. Klema Builders fabricates custom gates, railings, and iron fencing in-house, so a wrought iron fence, driveway gate, and walkway railing can all carry the same picket spacing, top detail, and finish. We design the fence as part of the property, not as a separate add-on.
What warranty comes with a new fence?
Klema Builders backs the workmanship on every fence we install, and material warranties from the cedar, steel, and hardware suppliers pass through to you. We register the applicable coverage in your name and hand you the paperwork at the final walkthrough.
