When is the best time to lay sod in San Antonio?
Sod goes in best from spring through early fall, while the grass is actively growing. The install date is set after the yard walk, and the written watering plan matches the rules in effect for that address then. Rock, mulch and edging can go in most of the year, on the mulch and rock page.
How do SAWS drought rules affect new sod?
On an existing San Antonio home, SAWS grants no extra watering days for sod that replaces grass. Do you install or move sprinklers with the sod?
No. Irrigation work is not part of a Klema sod job. You get a written watering plan for the grass and the rules at your address. In San Antonio that plan follows the SAWS stage: one designated irrigation day in Stage 2 and Stage 3, and hand-held hose watering any time. If the yard needs a head moved or a line repaired, you arrange that separately with a licensed irrigator. The sod price does not include it.
What happens to the old lawn before new sod goes down?
Old turf is removed and the soil is graded as part of the install. Klema Builders does not lay new sod over the living lawn. San Antonio City Code Sec. 34-275 requires four inches of soil under turfgrass installed with new construction. In Stage 3, Sec. 34-332 makes four inches of soil under the turf a condition of a new landscape. That soil rule is for those cases, not for every re-sod.
