Common questions

Who provides lawn care in San Antonio?

Klema Builders provides lawn care across San Antonio and surrounding communities, including mowing, edging, routine yard maintenance and landscape bed upkeep. Mowing is offered weekly, every two weeks or as a one-time cut. One-time yard cleanup is also available for leaves, brush, weeds pulled by hand and landscape debris. Fertilizer, weed killer, pest and fire ant treatments, aeration and irrigation work are outside this service. After a free on-site look, Klema Builders gives you a fixed price in writing before work starts.

How much does lawn care cost in San Antonio?

The price of lawn care in San Antonio depends on the lawn area, edging length, current grass and bed condition, access, the requested maintenance work and the amount of cuttings or debris to haul off. Klema Builders does not publish a price list for this service: after a free look at the property you get a fixed price in writing before any work starts, and that price is the total you pay.

What does your lawn care service include?

Lawn care covers mowing, edging, routine yard maintenance and upkeep of existing landscape beds, with cuttings and debris from the work hauled off. One-time leaf, bed and storm cleanup is covered on the yard cleanup page at /lawn-care/yard-cleanup. A free on-site look comes first, followed by a fixed price in writing for the requested work before it starts.

How often do you mow: weekly, every two weeks or one time?

All three. Klema Builders mows weekly or every two weeks on a recurring schedule and also takes one-time cuts, including the first cut on a lawn that has grown tall. The schedule is chosen at the free on-site look and written into the fixed price before work starts. A lawn kept on a weekly or two-week schedule stays inside the one-third rule. A one-time cut on tall grass is priced from the lawn as it stands.

Do you offer fertilizer, weed or pest treatments?

No. Fertilizer, weed killer, weed-and-feed, pre-emergent, pesticide, fire ant and fungus treatments are not part of this lawn care service. Applying any pesticide for hire, including weed killer and general-use products, falls under Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide licensing rules. Klema Builders limits this service to mowing, edging, maintenance, hand-pulled weeds and cleanup. Do you repair sprinklers or irrigation systems?

No. Irrigation repair, sprinkler adjustments, moving or capping heads, and drip-system work are outside this lawn care service. Klema Builders can mow, edge, maintain beds and clean up the yard around an existing system, but irrigation work must be handled separately. Point out visible heads, valve boxes and drip lines during the on-site look so the written lawn care scope reflects the yard as it is.

More questions (5)
Does the grass type change how a lawn is mowed?

Yes. St. Augustine, the most common shade lawn in San Antonio, is kept taller than Bermuda, which is a full-sun grass that takes a lower cut. Zoysia sits between the two. Cutting St. Augustine as short as Bermuda thins it and lets weeds in, so the grass in the yard is noted at the on-site look. This service maintains the turf already there. New sod is covered on the sod installation page.

What is the one-third rule for mowing?

The one-third rule says to take off no more than one third of the grass blade in a single mowing. Cutting more than that at once stresses the turf and leaves heavy clippings on the lawn. It is why a lawn that has grown tall is a different job from a routine cut, and why the first visit on an overgrown yard is priced from what is actually there.

Why does edging matter for a lawn?

Edging defines the boundary where turf meets a sidewalk, driveway or existing bed. It keeps grass from growing over the walk, driveway or bed edge. The amount of edging is also a real price driver because a yard with long walks, a corner lot or several beds has more boundary to address than an open lawn. Requested edges are identified during the on-site look.

Can lawn clippings and leaves be blown into the street?

No. San Antonio City Code Section 34-703 bars placing brush cuttings or clippings in a street where water may wash them into the storm sewer system, and Section 34-701 defines clippings to include lawn trimmings and leaves. The code recognizes that some leaves and clippings fall into the street during normal yard work, but it does not allow placing them there. Do San Antonio watering restrictions affect my lawn?

Yes. During SAWS drought Stages 2 and 3, San Antonio City Code Section 34-332 limits sprinkler, soaker-hose and in-ground irrigation to the customer's designated day, 5 to 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. to midnight. Drip may run Monday and Friday, and a handheld hose is allowed at any time. The stage changes, so check the SAWS drought page before watering. Irrigation work is outside Klema Builders' lawn care service.
