Pricing and payment

How much does Christmas light installation cost in San Antonio?

The price of Christmas light installation in San Antonio depends on the feet of roofline, one story or two, the roof pitch, how many trees are wrapped and how tall they are, extras such as wreaths and garland, and whether you buy or lease the lights. Every job is quoted as one fixed price in writing, from photos of your home. Payment is 50% at booking and 50% when the install is done.

How do you price a job?

By the feet of roofline, one story or two, the roof pitch, how many trees are wrapped and how tall they are, extras such as wreaths and garland, and whether you buy or lease the lights. We measure from photos of your home and from satellite images, and visit only if we need to. Every job is quoted as one fixed price in writing, from photos of your home.

Do I pay full price every year?

Not if you buy the lights. In later seasons you pay for the install, the in-season fixes and the takedown, not for the lights again. If you lease, you pay one price each season that covers the lights along with the work.

Should I buy the lights or lease them?

Buying costs more the first season and less every season after, and the lights are yours. Leasing is one price for the season with nothing to own. If you plan to light the house the same way for several years, buying usually makes sense. Ask for both prices on your quote.

Can you install lights I already own?

Yes. We also install lights you already own, after a signed waiver. The waiver is there because we cannot vouch for the condition of lights we did not supply. If a strand is damaged or not rated for outdoor use, we will tell you before it goes up.

Is there a deposit?

Payment is 50% at booking and 50% when the install is done. The first payment holds your install date.

Will the price change after I approve the quote?

No. The quote is one fixed price in writing. It changes only if you add to the design, such as another tree or a side of the roofline.

Do you tip Christmas light installers?

It is not expected. If you want to thank the crew, tell us how they did.

What is included

What is included in a Christmas light package?

The design, the lights, clips, cords and a timer, installation by our crew, in-season fixes, and takedown after the holidays. Storage depends on the size of the display, so it is quoted with your job.

Do you provide the lights?

Yes, in every package: C9 LED bulbs on wire cut to the length of your roofline, so there is no slack and no extra strand. You can buy them or lease them. We also install lights you already own, after a signed waiver.

Warm white or multicolor?

Either one, or a mix. You choose when you see the design, before anything is ordered or hung.

Do you wrap trees?

Yes. A trunk wrap covers the trunk and the first limbs. A canopy wrap follows the limbs out into the tree. Live oaks, cedar elms, cypress and palms can all be wrapped.

Can you light my pergola, deck railing, fence or gate?

Yes. Klema Builders builds pergolas, decks, fences and steel gates, so lighting them is part of the same design and the same install visit as the roofline.

Do you hang wreaths and garland?

Yes, on doors, windows, entry columns, porch and deck railings and gates.

Do I see the design before you install?

Yes. You see which rooflines, trees and features are lit before you book, and the price is for that design.

Do the lights come on by themselves?

Yes. Every install includes a timer, set so the lights come on at dusk and go off at the hour you choose.

Booking and timing

When should I book Christmas light installation?

As early as you can. Install dates are booked by area, so one crew lights several homes in the same part of town on the same day. The earlier you book, the more dates you have to choose from.

When do you take the lights down?

After the holidays. Many San Antonio families keep lights up through Three Kings Day on January 6; tell us when you book and we plan your takedown for after it. Check whether your owners association sets a date.

Do I need to be home for the install?

No. The crew needs access to the yard and to an outdoor outlet. If a gate is locked or an outlet is inside the garage, tell us before install day.

How long does installation take?

A front roofline is a few hours. A full display with tree wraps, garland and several rooflines can take most of a day.

What if it rains on my install day?

We do not work on a wet or icy roof. Your install moves to the next open date in your area.

Roof, power and property

Will the clips damage my roof or gutters?

The lights are held by clips matched to your roof: shingle, tile, metal or gutter. Nothing is nailed, stapled or screwed through roofing.

Can you install on a metal roof or a steep two-story roof?

Yes. Standing seam metal takes its own clip, and a steep or two-story roof takes more time and equipment, which is in the quote from the start.

Will the lights overload my outlets?

LED bulbs draw a small fraction of the power the old incandescent bulbs did. We plan the runs around your outdoor outlets and spread the load between them.

What if an outlet keeps tripping?

Outdoor outlets trip when water gets into a connection. Call or text and our crew comes out to find it. If a section goes out during the season, our crew fixes it within 72 hours.

What about wind?

Every run is clipped for Hill Country wind, not draped. If a storm pulls a section loose, call or text.

Who does the work?

Our crews. Klema Builders builds decks, pergolas, fences and steel across San Antonio, the Texas Hill Country and the I-35 corridor to Austin, and the holiday lighting is run by the same company.

In-season fixes

What happens if a light goes out during the season?

Call or text (210) 974-1420. If a section goes out during the season, our crew fixes it within 72 hours.

Is the fix time the same everywhere you work?

Yes. The 72-hour fix time applies across San Antonio, the Texas Hill Country and the I-35 corridor to Austin.

Do you fix lights I own that you installed?

We come out for the install itself: a clip that let go, a run that came loose, a timer that needs setting. A failed strand that you supplied is covered by the waiver, and we can replace it at your request.

Takedown and storage

Is takedown included?

Yes. Every installed package includes takedown after the holidays: every strand, clip, cord and timer.

Do you take down lights you did not install?

Yes. Send photos of what is up and you get one fixed price in writing for taking it down.

Do you store the lights?

Storage depends on the size of the display, so it is quoted with your job.

What happens if I move?

If you bought the lights, they are yours to take or to leave for the next owner. If you lease, tell us before the next season.

Do you clean up after takedown?

Yes. Clips, zip ties and cord ends leave with the crew.

Permanent lighting, HOAs and businesses

Do you install permanent Christmas lights?

Yes. Permanent lighting is a track of LED lights fixed along the roofline that stays up all year. What it involves depends on the house and on what you want it to do, so it is quoted after we talk it through, and an electrician handles the wiring.

Permanent or seasonal: which is better?

Seasonal lighting costs less up front and gives the classic large-bulb look. Permanent lighting costs more once and removes the yearly install and takedown. If you plan to stay in the house for years, ask for both on your quote.

Will my HOA allow Christmas lights?

Most do, with rules. Owners associations commonly set how early decorations can go up and when they must come down. Read your deed restrictions or ask your management company, tell us the rules, and the design and dates follow them.

Do you install for HOAs and businesses?

Yes: neighborhood entrances and monuments, clubhouses, storefronts, restaurants, offices and venues. Send photos of the property and what you want lit.

What areas do you serve?

San Antonio, the Texas Hill Country and the I-35 corridor to Austin, including Boerne, New Braunfels, Schertz, Cibolo, Seguin, Helotes, Fair Oaks Ranch, Bulverde, Canyon Lake, San Marcos, Kyle, Buda, Lakeway, Bee Cave, Dripping Springs, Wimberley, Cedar Park, Round Rock, Georgetown, Pflugerville and Leander.
